Overview
What is Cloud Infrastructure and Hosting?
Cloud infrastructure is the set of servers, networking, storage, and managed services an application runs on, provided by a platform such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure. Cloud hosting is the ongoing operation of that environment, including scaling, backups, monitoring, and security.
Cloud bills grow because nobody owns them and nothing is written down. So infrastructure here is defined in code, which makes it reviewable, repeatable, and possible to tear down and rebuild identically. Networking, storage, databases, certificates, backups, and access are set up deliberately rather than clicked together, with environments that genuinely match each other. Autoscaling is based on measured load, alerts go to a person with a runbook, and cost is broken down by service so you can see what each part of the product costs to run.
